چکیده

Late ventricular potentials (LVPs) are low amplitude, high frequency waveforms, appearing in the terminal part of the QRS complex of the electrocardiogram (Barbosa et al, 2002; Olinic & Zdrenghea, 1998), generated by diseased myocardium. They may extend in the ST segment (Zimmermann et al, 1983). Late ventricular potentials may be also defined as fragmented electrical activity, appearing in heterogeneous tissue areas, located at the border zone of a myocardial infarction (Fetsch, 1999). They are markers of an electrophysiological substrate for reentry ventricular tachycardia (VT) and sudden cardiac death (SCD) (Zipes et al, 2006). Most of the clinical research in this field is focused on risk stratification of patients with a history of myocardial infarction (MI), but the role of LVPs in other cardiac and extracardiac diseases is also discussed. At present, there is considerable interest on improved tests for risk stratification of sudden cardiac death and appropriate selection of prophylactic implantable cardioverter defibrillator recipients.

STUDY OF LATE POTENTIALS IN PEDIATRIC PATIENTS AFTER OP EN HEART SURGERY

This study was conducted to assess the incidence of abnormalities of ventricular depolarization (late potentials) in children with sinus rhythm after open heart surgery and their relation to spontaneous ventricular tachycardia. Open heart surgery, particularly operations involving ventriculotomy, may predispose patients to the development of ventricular tachycardia (VT) or ventricular fibri...

Inappropriate inhibition of biventricular pacing due to diaphragmatic myopotentials amplified by the selectable sensing filter.

A 66-year-old man with a cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D: Quadra Assura 3367-40QC, St. Jude Medical Inc.) experienced asymptomatic intermittent inhibition of biventricular pacing, mainly after meals. All measured parameters of the true bipolar ventricular lead (Durata 7122Q, St. Jude Medical Inc.) were in the normal range and general provocative maneuvers could not reprod...

Resveratrol Suppresses Cardiac Renin Angiotensin System in the Late Phase of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy

Background and objectives: Resveratrol(3,5,4′-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a natural polyphenole phytoalexin which exerts potential cardioprotective effects, but the cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for these effects are still unknown. Cardiac renin angiotensin system (RAS) over-activation plays an important role in pathogenesis of left ventricula...

Evaluating the overt extracardiac malformations in children with congenital heart disease in Khuzestan Province

Background: Extracardiac malformations can be seen in 20-45% of infants with congenital heart disease (CHD). Chromosomal abnormalities exist in 5-10% of patients with CHD. The aim of this study was to assess the frequency of overt extra cardiac malformations in children with CHD. Methods: This descriptive epidemiologic study was conducted on 720 patients with CHD referred to the pediatric ca...

Signal-Averaged ECG: Basics to Current Issues

Signal-averaged ECG (SAECG) is a high-resolution, noninvasive electrocardiographic method enabling detection of late ventricular potentials (LVP), which are low-amplitude and high-frequency signals, predicting reentry ventricular arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death (SCD). Three criteria are used to detect late ventricular potentials as follows: signal-average ECG QRS duration (SAECG-QRS), the...
